ENGINEERING Flashcards
What’s the purpose of the MRG and Shafting?
Convert high speed low torque to low speed high torque
State the description of the MRG
Double input Single output Double reduction Double helical Locked train Articulated
What’s the connection between the MRG and Propulsion Gas Turbine?
Turbine to MRG. High speed flexible coupling shaft
What’s the purpose of break mode?
Used for running aground. Stops everything real quick
What kind of thrust bearings do we have?
Kingsbury (most important)
What’s the purpose of main thrust bearings?
Makes us go forward. Absorbs axel thrust and disburses it through the hull.
Where are the main thrust bearing located?
One in each shaft
Where are the line shafts located?
STB- Main 2 and Shaft Alley
PORT- Shaft Alley
What’s the purpose of line shaft bearing?
Absorbs thrust
What’s the purpose of strut bearing?
Supports shaft outside skin of ship.
What is strut bearing lubed by?
Seawater
Where is the Stern Tube Assemblys located?
Shaft alley
What’s the purpose of the stern tube assembly?
Goes into the ship. Keeps water out
What is the Lube for MRG?
2190
What does CRP stand for?
Controllable Reversible Propeller
What’s the purpose of CRP system?
Allows ship to go forwards and backwards
What is HOPM?
Hydraulic Oil Power Module
What’s the purpose of HOPM?
Creates control oil and power oil
How many pumps are there for CRP Pumps?
2
Where are the CRP pumps?
Attached to MRG and Electric Pump
After oil goes to HOPM, where does it go next?
Oil Distribution Box
What’s the purpose of Oil Distribution Box?
Control oil tells power oil what to do
Why are the shafts hollow?
So Oil can get to and from the blades
What’s the purpose of CRP Head Tanks?
Keeps positive pressure in oil system
