Engine and Propeller Flashcards
1
Q
What type of engine is installed in your aircraft? Brief description.
A
2
Q
What are the four strokes of a reciprocating engine?
A
Intake, compression, combustion, exhaust
3
Q
Why do we have 2 magnetos per engine? What safety checks do you do?
A
- Redundancy & safety
- On the runup checklist you check each magneto, you are looking for less than
175rpm drop and 50rpm difference between the magnetos
4
Q
What is the main difference between carbureted and fuel injected?
A
Carb: Mixes fuel & air before entering the cylinders
Fuel injected: injects fuel directly into the cylinders
5
Q
Explain how a turbocharged engine differs from a normally aspirated engine, particularly at high altitudes.
A
- Normally aspirated relies on natural pressure from altitude
- Turbo compresses intake air, allowing higher density even at higher altitudes
6
Q
What kind of propeller do we have? Piper Archer?
A
Sensenich, fixed pitch, 76”
