Engie/APU Flashcards
What kind of engine does the 717 have and how much thrust
BR715
21000LBS
Start Duty Cycle Limitations
3 Start attemps with a maximum of 3 mins duration each
15 seconds is required between start attempts
Allow 15 mins of starter cooling before further start attempts are made
Ground Engine auto start requirements
The auto start includes an automatic 30 second engine montoring delay before fuel is introduced.
Auto start also includes a TGT protection threshold and will not allow fuel introduction unless the resoective TGT is below 150 c
IGNITION Switch- AUTO
ENG START SWITCH - Pulled
FUEL SWITCH- ON
Reasons for auto abort during ground engine start (6)
Auto start automatically abort and alert the crew.
- Hung start
- Start Duty time exceeds 3 min
- Hot start
- Loss of N2 Input
- Failure of both channels of ECC
- Fuel on condition not satisfied TGT above 150
Inflight starts are all…..
Manual Starts
Auto Abort start protection in the air
Not provided because all inflight starts are manual
Engine warm up requirements (2)
- No warm up is required if engines have been shut down for 2 hours or less
- A 3 min warm is required if engines have been shut down for more than 2 hours
Engine cool down requirements (1)
Engine cool down of 3 mins required before shutdown. EAD Engine cool message will apear on EAD
STANDARD DAY, SEA LEVEL, ENGINE INDICATIONS AFTER STABLE START
EPR- 1.0 N1- 20% TGT- 400 N2-60% FF600-700 OIL PRESS- 45
What is FADEC
Full authority digital engine control - controls functions form start to shutdown
3 main components of FADEC
- Throttle
- Throttle module
- Electonic engine control
What is the purpose fo the EEC
Incorporates an automatic relight funtion armed from engine start to shutdown
What causes activation of BOTH automatic ignition systems (4)
- ) Combustor instability
- ) Significant Water ingestion
- ) Significant ice ingestion
- ) Flameout
When is a single ignition system automatically energized
For 60 seconds after ENG ant-ice switch has been selected on
How do you use emergency thrust
Push the thrust levers through the mechanical gate
EPR will still be displayed, however, thrust management will be based on N1
ATS will disconnect automatically and the Qrh Should be referenced for re-engagment
Thrust limits achieved at the forward throttle gate should be referred to as
Maximum power
EMERGENCY THRUST =
MAXIMUM POWER
When will Reversers deploy
The reverser will only deploy when the respective engine is running. If one engine is inoperative the other can deploy for 30 seconds
What indications do you get when the reverser is out of the stowed position
Amber reverser inlock indication inside the EPR arcs on the EAD
What indications do you get when the reversers are 90 % deployed
Green REV is displayed on ther EPR ARC
What happens if reverser deploys in-flight
EEC will automatically reduce the thrust to idle on affected engine and re REV will be displayed on the EPR.
However built in safety features should prevent it.
How to deploy EMERGENCY REVERSE Power
Is obtained by pulling the levers through a mechanical gate and holding them in place
What is the risk in using EMERGENCY REVERSE POWER
Engine damage can occur and maintenance inspection is required
What indications do you have if you use EMERGENCY REVERSE thrust
AMBER REV alerts appear on the EAD in the EPR exceedance postion while green rev remains inside
ENG EXCEEDANCE RESET Switch
When pressed, reset and exceedance on EPR,N1, TGT AND N2 Primary engine synoptic
APU Starter Duty Cycle (2)
- 3 consecutive start attempts
2. Wait 30 min prior to futher start attempts
Where is APU fuel supplied from
Right tank
Can fuel be supplied from the left tank for the APU
Using Crossfeed
What happens when the center tank fuel value is less than 800 lbs when using the APU.
Using the center tank pumps alone can force air into the APU fuel line and cause a flameout or prevent a start
If the center tank is used to supply fuel to the APU, what must be on
Both center pumos and Right main tank fuel boost pump should also be operating
Does the APU have a start delay
Yes, 40 seconds to allows APU inlet door to open
Is there a APU bleed air limitation
Yes, 2 MIN
How do you verify APU shutdown is complete
When APU master switch is off, ensure inlet door closed by verifying the absence of the APU information block on the SD ENG display. Takes 1 minute after APU RPM begins decreasing
Shutting down APU with External Power and without
WITH- EXT power switch or GROUND SERVICE ELC PWR switch must remain on until APU shutdown complete
Without- Batt switch and EMER PWR selector must remain on until APU shutdown is complete.
What happens with a normal APU shutdown
Runs for aprox 17 seconds while the electrical stytem performs a no break power transfer (NBPT)
When is the 17 second No Power Break transfer bypassed (2)
If the APU fire is detected
If the APU FIRE CONT toggle switch is moved to the OFF & AGENT ARM position or when the exterior ground APU toggle switch is moved to the SHUT OFF position
When does the APU auto shutdown feature happen on the ground and in-flight
ON Ground- when conditions are present and could damage APU, auto shutdown and Amber APU AUTO SHUTDOWN alert is displayed
In-Flight - Auto shutdown for APU OVERSPEED or an APU COMPARTMENT FIRE. IF a APU FAULT condition occurs in-flight, the APU automatically shuts down 10 mins after landing, unless shutdown sooner by pilot.
