Q

THE CARBON CYCLE-how does it work?

A
  1. co2 is in the air, the trees/plants absorb it by photosynthesis(some is released back into the air when the plants respire)
  2. animals then eat the plants, so the carbon becomes a part of the fats and proteins-the carbon then travels through the food chain(and is also put back into the air when animals respire)
  3. when the plants die, some animals(detritus feeders)feed on their remains, when these respire the co2 is returned into the air
  4. animals also produce waste(which detritus feeders also feed on)compounds in the waste is taken up by the soil by plants as nutrients
  5. burning wood or animal products so it releases co2 back
  6. constantly being recycled.
