energy systems Flashcards
what is the benefit of a cool down
they keep and constant breathing and heart rate to ensure blood flow which aids the muscles to convert lactic acid into glucose and carbon dioxide
what does a massage do
reduces inflammation
increases blood flow to the muscles and remove lactic acid
what does an ice bath do
repair muscle fibres preventing doms
redices swelling
the warm when coming out of the bath allows the blood vessels to dilate and direct blood towards muscles
what does carbohydrates do after exercise
replace glycogen lost
what does rehydration do after exercise
replace fluids lost
prevent dizziness and symptoms of dehydration
give 3 immediate effects of exercise and explain them
- increased temperature - heat is a by-product of energy production
- red skin - blood vessel dilate and direct blood to skin surface
- increased breathing - more oxygen is being taken in and therefore more carbon dioxide can be removed
give 3 short term effects of exercise and explain
- tiredness and fatigue - energy stores are being used
- doms - micro tears in the muscles
- cramp - involuntary muscle contraction caused by lack of energy stores or dehydration
