Energy Resources. Flashcards
Natural Resource
Resources that we get from nature for example water, wood, and oxygen.
Renewable Resource
Is a natural resource that that be replenished as it can be taken and used.
Nonrenewable Resource
A natural resource that can’t be replenished as fast as it can be taken.
Fossil Fuel
Is a natural resource that forms over millions of years from dead organisms. examples petroleum, coal, and natural gas.
Nuclear Fission
a nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits spontaneously or on impact with another particle, with the release of energy
Nuclear Fusion
a nuclear reaction in which atomic nuclei of low atomic number fuse to form a heavier nucleus with the release of energy.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle
are vehicles that are powered on compressed hydrogen.
Solar Energy
radiant energy emitted by the sun
Wind Energy
is energy that is collected form windmills when it is windy.
Hydroelectric energy
energy we get from moving water
Biomass
it is an organic matter used as a fuel.
Ethanol (E85)
is a fuel taken from petroleum and used for energy.
Geothermal Energy
is energy stored inside of the earth.
Petroleum
a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons and other fuels can be taken from it it is often called crued oil
Natural Gas
is a gas taken from the earth example propane and is used for heating and energy
