Name three things we need energy for

Daily activities
Everything we do (sitting, standing etc.)
Growing
Breathing
How do you calculate the food energy per gram food (J/g)?
4.2 x mass of of water (g) x the temperature rise (°C) / mass of food (g)
While watching TV, a boy used up about 6 kJ per minute.
a) In what ways will the boy’s body use up the energy while sitting watching TV?
To keep the heart pumping blood around the body, breathing, growing and staying alive.
b) How long would it take to dye up all the energy obtained from a Bounty bar by watching TV? Show your working.
117 (energy in bounty) x 4.2 = 491.4 kJ
491.4 / 6 {energy used up per minute} = 81.9 minutes
Why do we eat?
To respire: glucose + oxygen — water + CO2 + ENERGY
