Law of Conservation
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred. It is conserved in a closed system and transferred from one store to another
Wasted energy
In any system, some energy will be wasted or dissipated, this makes the system less efficient
Efficiency equation
Useful energy/power output / total energy/power input
Efficiency example - oiling a gate
Reduce the amount of friction i.e heat energy lost to surrounding; reduce wasted sound energy
Power equation (W)
Work done or energy transferred (J) / time taken (s)
Calculating work done (J)
force (N) x distance moved in direction of the force (m)
Gravitational pot energy (J)
mass (kg) x grav field strength (9.8n/kg) x height (m)
Spring constant equation
force (n) = k (constant) x e (m)
elastic potential energy
1/2ke²
kinetic energy
1/2m(kg)v(m/s)²
weight equation
mass x grav field strength
