Medical procedure where dyes are used in the GI tract at the time of visualization with fibre optic technology
What is narrow band imaging
Diagnostic technique where specific blue and green wavelengths are used to enhance details. Blue is surface, green is deeper

Vomiting of blood
What is the presence of blood in dark, sticky faeces

Increase in portal vein system pressure leads to accommodation of blocked blood flow through liver in oesophagus, stomach and rectum.
What is a sclerosant
Injectable irritant that causes inflammation and subsequent fibrosis, thus obliterating the lumen of vein

Procedure to remove early stage and precancerous growths from lining of digestive tract
What is lithotripsy
Procedure that uses shock waves to break kidney stones into small sand-like particles that can pass out of the body through urine
What is PEG insertion
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) - Tube is inserted into patients stomach through abdominal wall , provide means of feeding due to dysphagia or sedation

Indication (justifiable)
Contraindications (recent infarct)
Bleeding diathesis (anticoagulant therapy)
Infection risk (prosthetic valves, shunts, immunosuppres)
