What are the risk factors for endometrial cancer?
Post menopause
High circulating oestrogen- obesity, PCOS, early menarche, late menopause
Familial cancer syndrome
What are the types of endometrial cancer?
Type 1- endometroid adenocarcinoma, most common
Type 2- uterine serous and clear cell carcinoma, more rare and aggressive
What is the precursor to an endometroid adenocarcinoma?
Hyperplasia with atypia
What is the precursor to uterine serous and clear cell carcinoma?
Serous intraepithelial carcinoma
What are the signs and symptoms of endometrial cancer?
Abnormal bleeding
Postmenopausal bleeding
What investigations are done for endometrial cancer?
Transvaginal US
Biopsy
What is stage 1 endometrial cancer?
A= inner half of myometrium B= outer half of myometrium
What is stage 2 endometrial cancer?
invades cervix
What is stage 3?
A- serosa/adnexa involved
B- vagina/parametrium involved
c- pelvic or paraaortic nodes
What s stage 4?
Bladder, bowel, intra abdo organ spread
Inguinal nodes
What is the treatment of endometrial cancer?
Tota abdo hysterectomy and bilateral salpingoopherectomy and peritoneal washings
What is the treatment of high risk endometrial cancer?
TAH, BSO and washings
Chemo
What is the palliative treatment of endometrial cancer?
Progesterone
