Works in conjunction with the nervous system to regulate body systems, maintain chemical balance, and control metabolic function.
Accomplished through the release of hormones from endocrine glands into the blood stream.
Pituitary gland
Function: Growth, salt and water balance, reproduction, and metabolism
Hypothalamus gland
Function: Growth, salt and water balance, reproduction, and metabolism

Parathyroid glands
Move calcium from the bone into the bloodstream
Adrenal glands
Regulates electrolyte levels in the body
Adrenal medulla gland
Releases neurotransmitters used to aid sympathetic nervous system
Pineal gland
Releases melatonin to help regulate sleep patterns
Pancreas
Specialized cells that produce insulin, which is necessary for blood sugar to move from the blood into the cells.
