Endocrine system Flashcards
How hormones in the endocrine system get into a cell
Endocrine system is hormone communication that passes through the blood stream- Target cells are usually in other distant tissues and organs and must have appropriate receptors
The endocrine system
is a homeostatic regularatory system that uses hormones transported via the blood
Which of the hormones act on itself? MCQ test
Autocrine
The target cell
The target cell must have the appropriate receptor to the hormone to attach to or the hormone will bounce off if not compatible.
What is the exception to non-steroid hormones- MCQ test
triiodothyronine
thyroxine
Second messenger- Cyclic AMP
Non-steroid hormone that binds to the cell and the receptor will pass the signal on from the hormone to another molecule which then activates cyclic AMP. Then cyclic AMP which is the second messenger will go and activate the actual enzyme
Second messenger. Calcium- Calmodulin
The first messenger will activate a calcium channel in the cell then calcium will bind to the calmodulin then acts in calcium which is the second messenger will go and activate the actual enzyme.
Parathyroid hormone- Test or exam
When theres too little calcium in the blood Parathyroid hormone will increase the calcium level by sucking calcium out from the bone.
