Endocrine Liver 2 Flashcards
What does bile do for digestion?
lipid (fat) digestion & absorption of lipid soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K)
What does bile do for excretion?
elimination of bilirubin, cholesterol, and drug metabolites
How is cholesterol converted into a bile salt in the liver?
7-a-hydroxylase conversion of cholesterol to Primary Bile Acids (cholic acid/chenodeoxycholic acid) –> conjugation into Taurine or Glycine (Bile Salts)
What happens to bile salts in the intestine?
can be unconjugated by Dehydration Rxn into Secondary Bile Salts (Deoxycholic Acid, Lithocholic Acid)
What goes into the synthesis of bile?
Bile salts, H2O, glutathione, glucose, AA, urea, CHOLESTEROL, BILIRUBIN, Phosphatidylcholine (increases cholesterol solubility)
Where are Cholangiocytes? What do they do?
line ductules - alter composition of bile: Reuptake (glucose, AA), Release (HCO3-, IgA)
