Endocrine Embryology Flashcards
What are the 3 ways the hypothalamus functions?
- Endocrine by releasing ADH and Oxytocin.
- Secretes releasing and inhibiting hormones.
- Adrenal gland effects
How does Rathkes pouch form and what is its derivitive?
Ectodermal outpocketing.
Forms anterior pituitary or adenohypophysis.
How is the infudibulum formed and what does it make?
Extention of diencephalon.
Forms Posterior pituitary or neurohypophysis, and pituitary stalk.
What are herring bodies, and where are they found?
Large bulbs of neurosecretory cells that store products. Found in posterior pituitary.
Where are Cromophils and Cromophobe cells located?
Anterior pituitary.
What do follicular cells make? what do parafollicular cells make and where do they originate from? Where are these cells located?
Follicular: T3 T4
Para: Calcitonin from untimobranchial body from 4th pouch.
All from thyroid gland.
Which pouches do the inferior and superior portion of the parthyroid gland come from?
Superior=4. Inferior=3
What germ layer is the adrenal cortex and medulla made from?
Cortex=Mesoderm
Medulla=Ectoderm.
How is the pancreas formed? What can happen if it does form properly?
Dorsal and ventral buds form and fuse. Annular Pancreas occurs when they dont fuse.
