Infection of the endocardium

  • Bicuspid aortic valve (Fusion of adjacent cusps to form a single abnormal valve)
  • Injectable drug use

A
  • Abnormal blood flow over valve and abnormal valve tissue

- Microbes in blood stick to valve cusp and form a biofilm (vegetation)
