endo Flashcards
Periapical periodontitis- group of periapical conditions that originates from pulp disease
abbott
Apical periodontitis is inflammation and destruction of periradicular tissues caused by etiological agents of endodontic origin, most frequently bacteria
Ricucci et al 2006
Apical periodontitis is an inflammation of the periodontium due to microbial contamination in the root canal system

Periapical inflammation- body’s defence system to the presence of bacteria and their by-produces
abbott
Apical periodontitis is a multifactorial disease that is resultant of the interplay of many host and bacterial factors.
Siqueira 2007
Endodontic treatment should fulfil a variety of objectives:
• Create a continuously tapering preparation from the crown to the apices
• Maintain the position of the apical foramen on the root surface
• Maintain the shape of the original canal as much as possible
• Keep the apical foramen as small as possible
• Use copious irrigation to ensure the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected
• Obturate and seal the root canal system
