Enalapril education?

A
  • Swallow whole ( do not crush, chew, split)
  • store oral solution at room temp
  • discard oral solution after 60 days
    -Take at the same time everyday
  • Educate about excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea
  • educate on orthostatic hypotension ( move slowly)

Enalapril action?

A
  • reduced blood pressure and development of heart failure by affecting the renin/ angiotensin/ aldosterone system by inhibiting ACE enzymes
  • prevents angiotensin I from converting to II
  • decreased vascular tone and BP
    which inhibits sodium and water reabsorption

Enalapril contraindications?

A
  • concurrent aliskirne therapy in pt with diabetes
  • Pt with a history of hereditary or idiopathic angio edema if they have a hypersensitivity or the use within 36 hour of valsartin therapy

  • Litium ( increase blood lithium and toxicity in the blood)
  • NSAIDS
    -Potassium sparing diuretics
  • Thiazide diuretics
  • Foods ( potassium containing salt subs)
