Recruitment is the process of hiring new staff
•employ the right staff=save time/money
Onboarding
new employees are trained with the required skills for job role
Development
given the opportunity to continue their learning – Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
•Businesses should encourage their employees to progress within their career pathways
Retention
keeping staff
•rather keep staff than constantly hire new ones because it saves/money
•good managers will have listening skills to support them
Exit
leave the business for a number of reasons – they may have personal commitments; decide on a career change; etc.
•leave on good terms
Exit process
employee no longer works for the business, they have to keep specific information for a number of years.
6 years = P60 (financial info) and training records
3 years = payroll, maternity/paternity
2 years = working time
GDPR
General Data Protection Regulation
Became a law in 2018 to protect the personal information and data of individuals
It ensures businesses store personal information securely
How can businesses follow GDPR
•Communicate clearly to employees exactly what information they hold
•Only keep required info
•Password protected / stored confidentially
What happens if a business doesn’t comply with GDPR
•Strict penalties would be imposed
The most severe being 20 million euros (equivalent) or 4% of their annual turnover
Working Time Directive 1996
•under 18,- max 40hrs per week
•protect employees from illness/burn out from working too much
•20 mins break,6+ hours
•weeks holiday/annual leave (28 days)
Duty of care
Employers have a duty of care to follow these laws and protect their employees
Employees also have a duty of care to meeting the expectations of their contract
Disciplinary Action
Disciplinary action is the process an employer would take if an employee is not performing or meeting their expectations
