  • Perception: recognize and express emotions successfully
  • Facilitation: view and understand emotions from different perspectives using past knowledge to understand the situation
  • Understanding: sees connection between emotions and events
  • Management: Detachment from a specific emotion to evaluate its necessity

Golemans model

A
  • Linked emotional intelligence to the amygdala which is responsible for fight or flight responses (anxiety).
  • As we learnt to control these emotions the amygdala is developing e.g. child runs from problem, adolescent argues and adults reason
  • To manage emotions you must understand the connection between emotions thoughts and actions.

  • Self-awareness (self-confidence): based on recognizing your own emotions accurately
  • Self-management (self-control): based on managing your own emotions
  • Social awareness (empathy): assess and influence the emotions of others
  • Social skills (influence): ability to sustain interpersonal relationships
