emotion Flashcards
4 components of emotion
Psychophysiology
• Distinctive motor behavior •
Self-reported cognition •
Unconscious behavior
State of mind, emotional “state”
– On a continuum from “bad” to “good”
– Often has no identifiable source
– (doesn’t have a quality to it, its good or bad
mood
Difficult to distinguish in lit (observable aspects of emotion)
Both refer to the subjective experience of emotio
affect/feelings
decorticated dogs can still show rage responses.(you don’t really need cortex for emotion)
-who is this?
goltz 1890
Emotional responses in cats depend on the diencephalon. (we need the diencephalon)
-who is this?
bard 1920
Proposes that emotion depends on the “limbic lobe”. (amygdala not important he thought)
-who is this?
papez 1937
kluver busy syndrome results form?
bilateral removal of amygdala and inferior temporal cortex
symptoms of kluver busy syndrome (6)
-Tameness and loss of fear
– Indiscriminate dietary behavior
– Increased sexual behaviour
– Hypermetamorphosis: reacts to all visual stimuli
– Examination of objects by mouth
– Visual agnosia (cant recognize what the objects are)
( the amygdala may be important in emotion)
- Associates +/-rewards with previously neutral stimuli
- A “pleasure centre”
- > what structure is this in emotional circuitry ?
mid-anterior orbital-frontal cortex
what structure in the emotional circuitry monitors and predicts rewards
medial orbital-frontal cortex
left hemisphere lesions lead to ? (the production of emotional behaviour)
depressive symptoms
anterior lesions? (the production of emotional behaviour)
reduce facial expressions
left frontal lesions? (the production of emotional behaviour)
decrease talking
right hemisphere lesions lead to ? (the production of emotional behaviour)
aprosodia and deficits in comprehension and judgement of emotion
right frontal lobe lesions produce impairments in ?
understanding and using humour
