Emotion Flashcards
Emotion
Complex program of actions triggered by the presence of specific stimuli (can be external or internal to the body)
Feelings of emotion
Perceptions of the emotional action programs
3 components of “program of action”
- Autonomic
- Facilitate the behaviors and provide quick mobilization for vigorous movement
- Behavioral
- Muscular movements appropriate to the situation (ex. Facial expression)
- Hormonal
- Reinforce the autonomic responses (epinephrine + glucocorticoid)
James-Lange theory
Bodily responses to stimuli come first, then induce feelings of emotion
- issues: Reaction of autonomic responses not always faster than conscious feelings of emotion; same autonomic response for different emotions
Cannon-Bard theory
Conscious feelings of emotion and bodily responses occur simultaneously and independently with an emotional stimulus
Two-factor theory
Combination of cognitive appraisal and perception of biological changes together determine conscious feelings of emotion
Neural circuitry for emotion is also called the…
Paper Circuit
