Emergency - Initail Actions Flashcards
Two reasons why ventilation is crash stopped ?
Stops spread of any airborne contamination or smoke
Arouses ships company awareness to an impending pipe
Where are the switches for FWD and AFT ventilation located ?
FWD : SCC
AFT : CCC
Who has control of the vent switches at sea and in harbour ?
At sea : SCCO and MRS
In harbour : LDT and SDS
In the event of an emergency the initial reaction of the SCCO & MRS/SDS will be to shut ?
Bulkhead isolation vvs
Fire dampers
Air purification
Rules for bulkhead doors/ airlocks
Airlocks :
shut airlock doors at the start of the incident
Doors opened one at a time for access
Bulkhead doors : left open for fire
Initial control of incident ?
Maintain control of sub
Line up for firefighting
Initially ships control take charge of incident
The incident is then handed over to DCHQ when they have closed up
Initial isolations of incidents ?
Only isolate when you are certain of the implications.
Report isolation as soon as possible - vv name and number
Ensure that report being made is confirmed by person receiving it
Ask them to repeat back vv name and number.
DCHQ closing up who’s involved and how do you know ?
DCHQ personnel are nominated on watch and station bill
Damage control officer (XO)
WE CELL (DCWEO, WE weapons, WE sensors)
ME CELL( DCMEO, mechanical ME and electrical ME)
Incident board marker
Communications
Various damage control repair teams throughout sub.
what does DCHQ taking the incident from SCOOW allow the Ships control to concerntrate on ?
Allows ships control to concentrate on keeping sub safe
DCHQ maintain control of ships systems
Depending on the operational tasking, command will have priorities wether its;
- float
- fight
- move
DC documentation contains the equipment/ systems needed for each tasking ( command priorities) for example :
Float: sub may need to adjust bodily weight (trim ballast and air systems)
Move: may require propulsion, control surfaces and sensors ( sonar and radio)
Fight: torpedo launch system ( hydraulics and air)
Once the emergency has been mitigated and systems are restored what factors may affect what order they come back on in and what happens once all systems are restored?
System restoration is priority driven
On restoring systems to the normal sea going line up, they will be given back to ship control
When all systems are restored DCHQ falls out from the incident when the DCO has made the pipe to do so.
Initial actions of watchkeepers in emergency
On watch personnel remain at their watch keeping position.
Stood down watch keepers are to proceed to their emergency stations
First aid fire fighters are stood down watch keepers
