When do you start assisting in an emergency situation?
As soon as enough info has been obtained.

What do you tell RCC or ARTCC when an emergency exists?
An emergency is declared by either:
>the pilot
>facility personnel
>officials responsible for the operation of the aircraft
There is unexpected loss of radar contact and radio comm with any IFR or VFR aircraft
Reports indicate it has made a forced landing, or will in the future
Reports indicate the crew has abandoned the aircraft or will in the future
An emergency transponder code is displayed or reported
Intercept or escort aircraft services are required
The need fo ground rescue appears likely
An Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal is heard or reported
