Aircraft Bomb Threats Flashcards
(10-2-(11-13)
When info (from any source) is received that a bomb has been placed on, in, or near an aircraft for the purpose of damaging or destroying such aircraft, what do you do?
> advise the pilot of the threat
> inform the pilot that technical assistance can be obtained from an FAA aviation explosive expert
> ask the pilot if he/she wants to climb or descend to an altitude that would equalize or reduce the outside air pressure/existing cabin air pressure differential
> handle the aircraft as an a emergency and/or provide the most expeditious handling possible with respect to the safety of other aircraft, ground facilities and personnel
> issue or relay clearances to a new destination if requested
> when a pilot requests technical assistance, obtain info from the FAA aviation explosives expert
(10-2-(15-16)
What factors do you consider when recommending an emergency airport?
> fuel remaining in min. In relation to airport distances
> weather conditions
> airport conditions
> NAVAID status
> aircraft type
> pilots qualifications
> vectoring or homing capability to the emergency airport
(AFI 13-204v3: 11.9)
When you receive a civil aircraft request for the location of the nearest explosives detection K-9 team:
.>relay the request to the FAA Washington Operations Center via telephone (DSN 851-3750 and commercial 202-267-3333) giving the aircraft ID and position
> AEO-100 will provide the ATC facility with the nearest location. Have AEO standby while relaying the info to the pilot
> after determining the aircraft wishes to divert to the airport provided, the ATC facility will find out the estimated time of arrival and advise AEO-100.
> If a military installation has an explosives detection K-9 team, during emergency situations and with the concurrence of base officials, advise the pilot that such service is available.
(AOI 13-204: 6.12.(all)
What do you do if a military aircraft landing at GFAFB requests an explosive detection K-9 team?
> tower will activate the PCAS and relay all available info, then they will coordinate necessary info with Base Defense Operations Center via the landline (this request must be approved by SECFO.
(10-2-(11-13)
When an aircraft requests technical assistance concerning a bomb, what information do you obtain from the aircraft before notifying the supervisor?
> type, series, and model of the aircraft
precise location/description of the bomb device if known
other details which may be pertinent
(10-2-(11-13)
What actions do you take if you receive an aircraft requesting the location of the nearest explosive detection K-9 team?
> obtain the aircraft ID and position and advise your supervisor of the pilot request
> when you receive the nearest location of the explosive detection K-9 team, relay the info to the pilot
> if the aircraft wishes to divert to the airport location provided, obtain an estimated arrival time from the pilot and advise your supervisor.
(10-2-(11-13)
When a threat or attack from Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) is determined to be real, notify and advise aircraft as follows:
> do not withhold landing clearance. To the extent possible, issue information on MANPADS threats, confirmed attacks, or post-event activities in time of riot to be useful to the pilot. (They will determine their actions
> MANPADS info will be put on the ATIS and/or controller-to-pilot transmissions
> give info directly to pilots until info is on ATIS
> report on ATIS or to pilots until otherwise notified by the DEN (domestic events network (ATSC) Air traffic security coordinator
(10-2-(11-13)
What is the phraseology for MANPADS alerts?
ATTENTION (ACID) MANPADS ALERT. EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. MANPADS THREAT: ATTACK/POST-EVENT ACTIVITY OBSERVED/REPORTED BY (reporting agency) (location) AT (time, if known). (When transmitting to an individual aircraft) SAY INTENTIONS
(10-2-(11-13)
What does MANPADS stand for?
Man-portable air defense system
They are surface to air missiles that can be fired by an individual or a small team of people against aircraft.

What can you use for guidance into an airport in an emergency situation?
> radar
> following another aircraft
> NAVAIDs
> pilotage by landmarks
> compass headings
(AOI 13-204: 6.12.(all)
What do you provide AEO-100 with?
> aircraft’s identification, position, and pilot’s intentions
