Emergency Flashcards
Inotropes for types of shock
Hypovolemic or distributive - alpha agonist eg adrenaline/norad
Cardiogenic
- positive chronotrope e.g. adrenaline/norad, dopamine
- reduce afterload e.g. dobutamine, nitroprusside, milrinone
Cause of respiratory deterioration of intubated patient
DOPE Displacement Obstruction Pneumothorax Equipment failure
Size of intubation tube
4 + age/4
Dose of atropine for supraventricular or junctional bradycardia
IV/IM 20 microg/kg (max 500 microg)
Dose of arrest adrenaline
10 microg/kg = 0.1mL/kg
Of 1:10:000
Cause of hypoxemia vs hypercarbia
VQ mismatch and shunting vs inadequate ventilation
Starting dose of defib vs cardioversion
2-4J/kg vs 0.5-1J/kg
Cardioversion - REMEMBER TO SYNC
Definition of ARDS
Onset with 7 days of insult
Not fully explained by fluid overload
New infiltrate on imaging
Impairment of oxygenation
Oxygenation index
Pa02
Mild >4
Moderate >8
Severe >16
Total blood volume
Neonate 100ml/kg
Child 75- 80ml/kg
Teenager 70ml/kg
