Embalming Module 4 Flashcards
The death of body Tissue.
Necrosis
Gradual degeneration and death of cells in the body tissues.
Necrobiosis
A cooling or decrease in the body temperature PRIOR to death
Agonal Algor
An increase in the body temperature just PRIOR to death.
Agonal Fever
The accumulation of fluid or blood in the lower parts of the body or organs under the influence of gravity after death.
Agonal Hypostasis
Moisture due to temperature changes prior to death.
Agonal moisture changes
Name given to the action of the bacteria Clostridium perfringens (formerly known as C. welchii) in dead bodies.
Tissue Gas
The gradual cooling of the body following death.
Algor Mortis
The settling of blood in the dependent parts of an organ or body.
Hypostasis
A measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow.
Viscosity
Also known as lividity or hypostasis, is the gravitational pooling of blood to lower dependant areas resulting in a red/purple coloration.
Liver Mortis
The loss or removal of water from something.
Dehydration
A phenomenon where the body temperature of a corpse rises or remains unusually high for up to 2 hours after death instead of falling.
Postmortem caloricity
Purplish areas or spots on the body, appearing within 30 minutes to 2 hours after death, as a result of gravitational movement of blood within the vessels.
Postmortem Stain
Postmortem rigidity and the third stage of death.
Rigor Mortis
