Elisa Test Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how to carry out an Elisa test
A
- HIV antigens bind onto the well plate
2 the patients blood sample is added to the plate consisting the HIV antigens - if the HIV antibodies are present, they will bind to the complementary HIV antigens
- rinse the plate to get to get rid of any unwatned antibody
- antibodies that are complementary tp the HIV antibodies will then bind to them
the antibodies will have enzymes attracted to them - wash the surface again so that it wouldnt just always appear a positive test - to get ri of unbound antibody
- add the colourless substrate of the enzyme
enzyme acts on the substrate to change it into a coloured product if a postive result - amount of antigen present is relative to the intesnsity of the colour it develops
