Elisa Test Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how to carry out an Elisa test

A
  1. HIV antigens bind onto the well plate
2 the patients blood sample is added to the plate consisting the HIV antigens
  2. if the HIV antibodies are present, they will bind to the complementary HIV antigens
  3. rinse the plate to get to get rid of any unwatned antibody
  4. antibodies that are complementary tp the HIV antibodies will then bind to them
the antibodies will have enzymes attracted to them
  5. wash the surface again so that it wouldnt just always appear a positive test - to get ri of unbound antibody
  6. add the colourless substrate of the enzyme
enzyme acts on the substrate to change it into a coloured product if a postive result
  7. amount of antigen present is relative to the intesnsity of the colour it develops
