Q

What are the three factors affecting ionisation energy?

A

Distance-increasing distance between nucleus and electrons means there is less attraction for electrons so ionisation energy decreases
Nuclear charge-increasing the number of protons in the nucleus increases attraction so IE increases
Shielding-more electrons in filled inner shells repel electrons in the outer shell more strongly-less attraction IE decreases
