What is the definition of the first ionisation energy?
The energy required to remove an electron from each atom in a mole of gaseous atoms to form one mole of gaseous 1+ ions

What is an oribital?
An area of an atom that can hold a maximum of two electrons with opposite spin
What shape is an s orbital?

What are the three factors affecting ionisation energy?
Distance-increasing distance between nucleus and electrons means there is less attraction for electrons so ionisation energy decreases
Nuclear charge-increasing the number of protons in the nucleus increases attraction so IE increases
Shielding-more electrons in filled inner shells repel electrons in the outer shell more strongly-less attraction IE decreases
