electromagnetic induction Flashcards
what is electromagnetic induction?
the creation of potential difference across a conductor which is experiencing a change in magnetic field
what happens when you move the magnetic in a coil of a wire/ move electrical conductor in a magnetic field?
creates a current
what happens when you move the magnetic in the opposite direction of potential difference?
the potential difference will be reversed
what happens if the polarity is reversed?
the potential difference will be reversed
what happens when the magnet/coil is moving back and forward?
you produce a potential difference which keeps swapping direction and eventually produces an alternating current
dynamos
- used in bikes (power light)
- the cog of a wheel at top
- is positioned so it touches the wheel
how do dynamos work?
as wheel moves round it turns the cog attached to the magnet which produces an alternating current
