Electromagnetic induction Flashcards
How do you calculate the total magnetic flux passing through an area, A.
The total magnetic flux, 0 = BA. The product is called the magnetic flux linkage.
Explain how a voltage is induced in a conducting rod when it moves through a magnetic field.
If a conducting rod moves through a magnetic field it’s electrons will experience a force which means that they will accumulate at one end of the rod. This induces an voltage across the ends of the rod like a battery.
When is an e.m.f induced?
When a conductor moves relative to a magnetic field an e.m.f is induced. An e.m.f is produced whenever lines of force(flux) are cut.Flux cutting always induces e.m.f but will only induce a current if a circuit is complete.
State Faraday’s law
The induced e.m.f is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux linkage.
Given an equation that represents Faraday’s law.
Induced e.m.f = flux change/time taken
State Lenz’s law.
The indued e.m.f is always in such a direction as to oppose the change that caused it.
