Circular motion Flashcards
What is the equation for angular speed?
w = 0/t
w = angular speed(rad s-1)
0 = angle (radians) turned through in a time, t (seconds).
What is the equation that links linear speed,v and angular speed,w, of a rotating object?
v = rw
What equations link frequency/period to angular speed.
w = 2πf
w = 2π/T
What is centripetal acceleration?
The acceleration the car experiences is always directed towards the centre of the circle when a car is going around in a circle at a constant speed. This acceleration is known as centripetal acceleration.
What are the two formulas for centripetal acceleration?
(one in linear and the other in angular velocity)
a = v2/r
a = w2r
What are the two formulas for centripetal force?
F = mv2/r
F = mw2r
