Electrolyte Imbalances 2 Flashcards
2 effects of Hyperkalemia
- Muscle Weakness
- Severe Arrhythmias (possibly death)
When K+ is high, at what level in the blood does muscle weakness begin to occur?
> 8.0 mEq/l
ECG when K+ is 6.0 to 7.0 mEq/l (high)
Tented T wave
ECG when K+ is 7.0 to 8.0 mEq/l (high)
QRS complex widening
ECG when K+ is 8.0 to 9.0 mEq/l (high)
PR interval lengthening
ECG when K+ is 9.0 to 10.0 mEq/l (high)
Atrial Arrest (no P wave)
ECG when K+ is >10.0 mEq/l (very high)
Death
When obtaining a “Rough Estimate” of fluid loss/hydration status in an animal exhibiting signs of dehydration, what 4 things should you ask about specifically when taking the history?
- Anorexia
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Low long jhas this been going on?
How much body weight from fluid loss will an anorexic dog lose
0.1-0.3 kg/ day
How much fluid does an animal lose from each episode of vomiting or diarrhea
4ml/ kg/ episode
