Electricity Flashcards
Electricity
The presence or flow of charged particles.
Electric current
The flow of electrons around a circuit.
Static electricity
The build up of electrons on an insulator.
Conductors of electricity
Materials which allow electrical current to flow through them easily, e.g. Silver, Gold, Copper, Aluminum, Steel, Iron, Graphite
Insulators of electricity
aterials which are poor conductors and do not allow electrical current to flow through them easily, e.g. Rubber, Glass, Oil, Air, Wood, Plastic
Resistance
This tells us how difficult it is for current to flow through a circuit. The more resistance there is, the harder it is for current to flow.
Conduction
The process by which electrical current flows through a wire or another conductor.
Electrolyte
Liquids which can electrically conduct.
Series circuit
When there is only one route for the current to flow, if one component is taken out/broken, the whole circuit breaks and the current stops.
Parallel circuit
A circuit that provides 2 or more routes for the current to flow, if one component is taken out/broken, the rest of the circuit will continue.
