Electrical generation and distribution Flashcards
What is the function of the electrical generation and distribution system?
- To generate electricity for all SM systems whilst at sea and alongside if SS is lost
- Receive AC and DC SS whilst in harbour
- Distribute a safe and reliable source of AC and DC supplies for all SM systems
List the major components of the electrical generation and distribution system
2 x TG's 2 x MG's 3. Main static converter 4. SM battery 5. AC DG 6. DC DG 7. AC and DC SS 8. ESS SWBD 9. Non ESS SWBD 10. DC SWBD
What is the function of the TG’s?
- Ensure the SM is self sustaining
2. To generate the bulk of 440v 60Hz 3ph Electricity
What is the function of the MG’s?
To produce AC and DC supplies as required
What is the function of the MSC?
- To replace the 650kw MG’s
2. To produce AC and DC supplies when required
What is the function of the SM main battery?
To provide DC supply in the event of a loss of AC power
What is the function of AC and DC DG’s
- Provide an emergency source of AC and DC power in the event of a loss of the reactor or SS
- Charge the main SM battery
What is the function of ACSS?
Provide 440v 60Hz 3Ph AC when the reactor is shutdown
What are the major components of the electrical distribution system?
- Switchboards
- Bus bars
- Bus couplers
- Battery breakers
- Load centres
- Air quenched breakers (AQB’s)
