Containment system and plant states Flashcards
1
Q
State the function of the containment system
A
- To prevent the release of fission products from the RC, and the submarines pressure hull
- To protect the general public from effects of a reactor event
2
Q
What is included in the primary shielding?
A
- Fuel plates
- RPV
- Primary pipework
- Primary shield tank
- Poly blocks
3
Q
What is included in the secondary shielding?
A
- RC bulkheads
- Tunnel and RSC deck
- Hover tanks
- Diesel oil fuel tank
- Aft missile comp tank
4
Q
What is a hard system?
A
Systems that could withstand the maximum pressure of a reactor event without rupturing
5
Q
What is a soft system?
A
Soft systems cannot withstand the maximum pressure of a reactor event without rupturing
6
Q
List soft systems fitted with automatic valves
A
- LP bilge system
- Trim system
- Ventilation system
- SG reliefs
- Chilled water system
- SG water sampling
- Atomphere analysing
- Steam drains
- APD
- Tunnel pressure equalising (LPA)
- MPA
- Feed transfer system
- Ballast system
- AFT AFFF system
7
Q
Describe plant state A
A
1. Plant pressure greater than 35 bar or 2. Plant temperature greater than 93 degrees celsius or 3. More than one CRDM is energised
8
Q
Describe plant state B
A
- the reactor is shutdown
- plant pressure is less than 35 bar
- Plant temperature is less than 93 degrees celcius
- Not more than one CRDM is energised
9
Q
Describe plant state C
A
- The reactor is shutdown
- Plant pressure less than 35 bar
- Plant and pressuriser temp less than 93 degrees c
- All CRDM’s de energised and fuses removed
- Two means of decay heat removal
- The decay heat rate is less than the heat removal capacity of the decay heat removal system
- Plant pressure not being maintained by a steam bubble
