elbow SOL Flashcards
Which 3 bones make up the elbow joint?
Humerus, ulna, radius
What type of joint is the elbow
Hinge joint - humeroRadial, humeroUlna. Plane joint at proximal and distal radio ulnar joint (for gliding)
How many degrees of freedom does the elbow joint exhibit?
2 in the elbow joint complex. Flex/Ext. Sup/Pro at radioulnar joint
RCL - Radial collateral ligament attachments
Lateral epicondyle to annular ligament and radial head
UCL - ulnar collateral ligament attachment
Medial epicondyle of humerus to coronoid and olecranon process of ulna
What limits the elbow joint’s normal ROM
- Olecranon on the humerus (bone on bone)
- Flexors of FA to biceps (soft tissue approximation)
What’s carrying angle
Angle b//w the long axis of humerus and FA when the arm is in anatomical position
F: 10-15
M: 5-10
Function of carrying angle
To allow FA to clear the hip when walking, running, carrying object
Function of annular ligament
Hold the proximal radial head against the ulna
Permits for free rotation for radial head during sup/pro
Function of interosseous membrane
- Link and maintain the space b//w radius and ulnar during rotation
- transmit forces from one bone to another
What pass through the cubital fossa
Biceps tendon, brachial A, medial and radial N
Sup border of cubital fossa
An imaginary line between medial and lateral epicondyle of humerus
Medial border of cubital fossa
The lateral boundary of pronator teres
Lateral border of cubital fossa
Medial border of brachioradialis
Which muscles do flexion of the elbow
Biceps brachii, brachialis, brachioradialis, pronator teres
Which muscle do extension of the elbow
Triceps brachii, anconeus
Muscle that supinates FA
Supinations, biceps brachii, brachioradialis
Muscles that pronate FA
Pronator teres, pronator quadratus (deep)
Origin of biceps brachii [long head]
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Origin of biceps brachii [short head]
Apex of the Coracoid process
Insertion of biceps brachii (both heads)
Radial tuberosity, and fascia of the FA via bicipital aponeurosis
Origin of brachialis
Distal aspect of humerus, deep to biceps brachii
Insertion of brachialis
Coronoid process and the ulnar tubersotiy
Innervation of biceps brachii
Musculocutaneous N (C5-7)
