- decreased social inhibitions – inappropriate behaviour
- decreased concentration
- reckless behaviour
- pressure of speech
- flight of ideas
what is rapid cycling mania
4 or more manic episodes in one year
what is schizoaffective disorder
some symptoms of schizophrenia and some symptoms of mania but insufficient to justify any diagnosis alone
what is cyclothymia
persistent instability of mood
numerous periods of mile depression and mild elation
>2 years of instability
what is mixed affective state
manic + depressive symptoms within the course of the day
present >2 weeks
1st line
antipsychotic drug - haloperidol/ olanzapine/ risperidone
what can be offed in conjunction to antipsychotic if unsuccessful
mood stabiliser - lithium/ sodium valproate
what is used in rapid cycling illness
valproic acid
