Brian is hesitant to drink the water because there was debris and bugs. He drinks the water anyways because he was desperate and sees the water is more clearer further out he goes on the log

When the pilot had a heart attack, he kicked the pedal which steered plane, changing the flight path, the plane has been going in that direction for hours until Brian crashed

Brian thinks people will be looking for him because he remembers contacting somebody from the radio and the man on the radio knew that Brian was in trouble. Brian was confident that he will be rescued because he knew that his parents would never stop looking for him, and that the people can follow the flight path to find Brian

English teacher said to stay positive and motivated. He also said do you things to occupy himself

The painful memory for Brian was when he saw his mother kissing another man (saw his mom cheating on his dad)

To never feel sorry for yourself because that gets you nowhere

The mistake Brian made was when he threw the hatchet in the dark, trying to hit the porcupine. This might’ve been even a costly error because he might’ve lose his most important resource, his hatchet.

Survival was one of the themes for hatchet.
Spent most of the story trying to survive in the Canadian wilderness. When he has to find food, he most relies on his pride or knowledge to help him catch a fish within the spear he made. He must then cook fish with the fire he had made with all the firewood, he feeds it.
-Stay positive-
Brian quickly realizes that feeling sorry for himself gets him nowhere. He uses his teachers lesson of staying motivated and positive to help him stay on top of things that need to be done. For example, getting wood to feed the fire.
