Perhaps he left the door open for him
Inviting him in
The cleanliness shows her domesticity and feminine side, a big contrast to her occupation which requires her to be strong - a job often associated with men
She Transitions from her professional-self to her at-home-self
a door stood half open and the stairs were brushed and clean
The further she walks into her house, the marks of her job fade and fade, she leaves her butcher-self behind as she enters the house
Each tread marked with the crescent of her bare heels left, fading to faintest at the top.
