What are ethics
Ethics are the conflict between what the researcher needs to do to conduct a useful manful piece of research and the rights of the participants
What are ethical issues
Informed consent
Deception
Protection from harm
Privacy
Confidentiality
What is informed consent
This is making sure that the participants know what they are getting into before getting into it, it involves making them aware of the aims and the procedures, their right of withdrawal of the study and what their data will be used for. Consent shouldn’t be forced
What is deception
This invloved deliberately misleading the participants or withholding information from the participants at any stage of the investigation.
What is protection from harm
Participants should be protected psychologically (from stress humiliation or anxiety)and physically (pain). They shouldn’t be put at ay risk
What is privacy
This refers to the right of the participants having control of information about themselves. Participants shouldn’t be studied in their homes s its an invasion of their privacy.
What is confidentiality
This refers to our right to have our personal data protected or kept anonymous
What should a consent form have?
It should thank the participants for taking part
Tell the the aim of the study
Outline the procedure and how long it might take
Explain ethical issues (right of withdrawal)
They can ask any questions at any point
Include a space to sign and put the date
