Nurturing parent
Offers occasional reassurance or encouragement and can be useful in certain situations, and the nurturing parent gives others kind words and support when something goes wrong.
Functional adult
A number of occasions call for logical approach. Joint problem solving and decision making are key for any professional context.
Adaptive child
We all need to exist side by side, and behave in ways acceptable to each other. The danger is that to fit in we may become to obedient and saying yes and no when we in fact disagree.
Natural child
This shows our natural friendliness, our innovation and spontaneity, such as when you decide to make a spur of decision moment to do something.
Rebellious child
The person can be resistant and this can either be outright rebellion or can be more subtle. Not agreeing or complying with authority is normally regarded as negative, more than occasion when we strongly believe that rules are wrong and need to be broken.
Critical parent
This ego state is firm and has a sense of authority. Although it is key in life to establish rules, the critical parent becomes critical and punitive towards those that break the rules.
Transactional analysis
The awareness of how one individual behaves in a transaction may affect the respondent’s feelings and behaviours
Ego state
- Social Roles: Prescribed set of interactions between different individuals
- Ego is the component of a personality that we use to function in everyday life
- Individuals choose which ego state they want to use in order to understand others and so that others can understand them
- We choose which ego state we want to be in various situations
- Each ego state consists of thoughts, feelings and behaviours
