The teacher experimented with two beakers: one had fresh water, and the other had saltwater. He put eggs in both. The egg floated in saltwater but sank in freshwater because it was denser than fresh water but less dense than saltwater. Adding salt to the freshwater made it denser, so the egg floated. When he poured water over a spoon into one of the beakers, the egg sank a bit before floating in the middle because of the layering of water densities. Mixing the water and saltwater made the egg float again.
