A
- Religiously motivated, Catholicism
- Demands dominated by religious grievances
- 6,000 armed rebels

Kett’s Rebellion 1549
A
- Began as an enclosure riot
- Kett agreed with rebels demands and led them
- Assembled 16,000 men
- Rebels defeated 14,000 troops
- Demands were more related to enclosure than religion.

Protestant Reforms - Northumberland 1549-53
A
- Act of 42 Articles, Edward I died, was never implemented.
- Second Act of Uniformity 1551
- Second Book of Common Prayer - had to be used in church services
- New Treason Act, offence to question church beliefs

A
- Age: minor, can’t lead troops/ control faction
- Easily influenced/exploited
- Can’t manage finances
- Protestant -> clearly one side of the religious divide
- Seymours are all Protestant

A
- Somerset -> ‘Reformist Faction’
- Caused rebellions, 1549 unrest -> social + foreign policy (war w/ Scotland), economic policiy
- Unpopular as protectorship continues
- Attempts coup at Hampton Court, tried to abduct Edward

- Tried to put Lady Jane Grey on the throne -> goes against H8’s will + 1544 Succession Act
- His execution of Somerset
- His religious reforms -> 2nd Book of Common Prayer
