Can decide curriculum, staff salaries, hire unqualified
Sponsored academies - part funded by PFI/PPP arrangements
FREE SCHOOLS
Same as academies - all abilities, choose curriculum and staff pay, inspected by ofsted, no LEA, accountable to education sec
Charities, groups of parents/teachers/governers can found own schools
Can’t convert, must be new
OFSTED

INSPECTS: Early year providers schools further education colleges teacher training providers Loc Auth. childrens service departments childrens social care
OFSTED INSPECTIONS
Full inspection every 3 years if good, 2 if requires improvement
Inadequate > special measures + may appoint temporary governing body or force to convert to academy
