Suzuki Harunobu
first artist to do multicolour prints, made prints more vibrant and dynamic
- came from samuri family
- father and grandfather were very prominent samuri
- one of the only artists to sign his own name every time

Katsushika Hokusai
“The Great Wave” c. 1831
- the great wave is a very small and elabortate
best known for print series of “36 views of mount fuji”
changed his name everytime he changed his style
broke the rules by doing landscapes rather than just portrait images
Utagawa Hiroshige
concentrates on landscapes
cherry blossom’s symbolism is “fleeting beauty”
is inspired by Hokusai, paints mount fuji a lot
