EDF PHONE Flashcards
What attracts you to this particular course
The reason I am attracted to this course is because of its focus on using data science and tech to make a positive impact on the environment. I am passionate about both data science and tech and I enjoy problem solving but its also important for me to work towards a positive cause that I care about, like combatting carbon emissions and working towards a sustainable. This course provides me the opportunity to develop my skills in a field I enjoy and to work for a company that shares my values and on projects that have a purpose.
What do you truly enjoy doing, and what are you like at your best?
I truly enjoy pushing myself to become the best version of myself that I can be, and I find immense satisfaction in helping others achieve their goals. From an extra curricular point of view, I challenge myself with difficult physical and mental activities such as chess and going to the gym regularly, in order to learn new skills. I am also a big fan of sports like football and F1, and I enjoy bonding with my friends and family over these activities. In terms of my professional development, I am passionate about improving my skills in data science and data visualization. At university I have had the opportunity to use machine learning to classify EEG data and in my own time have advanced my skills by learning machine learning techniques such as random forest regressor on Kaggle, and completing the Google Analytics Academy’s Data Analysis and Visualization course.
What is you greatest strength and how would it help EDF
My biggest strength is my inquisitiveness and my drive. I am always eager to learn new things and improve on what I know. This trait, combined with my drive to succeed, helps me to stay focused and motivated in any task. I am confident that this strength will be a great asset for EDF, as I will be able to continuously improve and adapt and be able to come up with innovate solutions and make meaningful contributions to problems and challenges.
Tell me what you know about EDF/What current EDF projects are you interested
EDF (Electricité de France) is a French state-owned electricity company, that produces, transports and sells electricity.
I know EDF is Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity and are working to reach Net Zero carbon emissions.
EDF generating zero carbon electricity from wind, nuclear and solar to help cut UK carbon emissions to nothing.
I looked at paper that was published where there was investigation on the possibility of P2P sales of electricity generated which was really cool, I was not able to access the full paper but the abstract was enough for me to see how cool this idea could be. It was something I had not considered before and showed the type of innovative company that EDF are.
Talk me through a time you used data science to solve a problem
I am currently in my third year of university and for my final year project I have been tasked with writing code that classifies left hand and right hand motor imagery of raw EEG data. To do this I have developed code that filters and classifies the raw EEG data I downloaded online and data that I have collected myself with a BCI. To filter the code I
Tell me about yourself
Hello! My name is vincent, Im 22 yrs old and I am currently living in north london, I am currently in my final year of studying electronic engineering where I have learnt some data science techniques, coding in c++ and matlab, and have learnt about sustainable power generation. To further my learning I have taken the google data analytics course and learnt machine learning skills on kaggle . With these experiences I developed a passion for data science and tech and decided that’s the field I want to work in.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement is my current university results and being on track to graduate with a first in a STEM degree, I’m especially proud of this because I will be the first in my family to get a degree and it will be a nice reward for the hard work I put in and will open the door for a lot of opportunities.
When was a time you showed leadership?
At university we were assigned random teams of 4 to complete a task of making a Christmas product using the electronic engineering skills we learnt so far. We had to agree upon roles to take to complete this task, everyone was unfamiliar with each other and seemed shy to contribute so I took initiative and suggested that I became team leader, everyone agreed and then I put forward the idea for a group brain storming session to come up with ideas for the project, which is easy way for everyone to contribute. Once the idea was agreed upon, we broke down the task into smaller tasks and I assigned tasks that everyone felt comfortable with doing and making sure split of work is fair.
How do you perform and deal with pressure?
Pressure is very important to me. Good pressure—such as having many assignments or an upcoming deadline—helps me to stay motivated and productive. Of course, there are times when too much pressure can lead to stress. However, I’m very skilled at balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines; this ability prevents me from feeling overly stressed. For example, I once had three large projects due in the same week, and that was a lot of pressure. However, because I created a schedule that detailed how I would break down each project into small assignments, I managed to complete all three projects ahead of time and avoided unnecessary stress.
