Amazon Flashcards
What is a Diesel Generator
: Provide emergency power by converting diesel fuel into electricity. They are crucial in data centers for ensuring uninterrupted power during outages.
UPS (Double Conversion)
This type of UPS continuously converts incoming AC power into DC power and then back to AC. It’s used in data centers to protect against power anomalies.
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and Static Transfer Switches (STS)
ATS are used to switch power sources automatically. STS are faster and used for high-speed switching between power sources.
Chillers and Cooling Towers
Both used to Remove heat from the water used in the data center’s cooling systems. Chillers cool the water, and cooling towers release the heat outside.
Pumps
Circulate the cooling medium (like water) in the cooling system of the data center.
Hot and Cold Aisle Containment
This design minimizes mixing of hot and cold air, improving cooling efficiency in data centers.
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE):
A ratio that measures how efficiently a data center uses energy; specifically, how much of the energy is used by the computing equipment in contrast to cooling and other overhead.
Real Power vs. Reactive Power:
Real power is the capacity of the circuit for performing work in a particular time. Reactive power is the power that flows back and forth between the source and load, which contributes to the magnetic and electric fields.
Power Factor
A measure of how effectively incoming power is used in your electrical system and is defined as the ratio of real power to apparent power.
Transformers:
Electrical devices that transfer electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction, used to step up or step down voltage levels.
