Q

What is your biggest weakness?

A

I would say that my current biggest weakness is public speaking and presenting, I wouldn’t say that I am bad at it and I have definitely gotten better at it with time but it does not come as naturally as I would like and it takes a lot of practice for me to feel ready to present. To try and improve I occasionally watch videos of talks and lectures to try and pick up skills and habits that people who have skills in public speaking have.

Q

Tell me about a time you have worked in a team:

A

In one of our university group projects, we were assigned to process ECG data. My part was to identify and amend abnormally large QRS complexes, which was quite challenging. Thankfully, I was able to complete this ahead of time.

During the process, I noticed that one of my teammates was struggling with her tasks. I realized we could all face a setback if any part of the project was incomplete, so I offered to help. We sat down together and broke the remaining workload into smaller, more manageable tasks. We then shared these tasks with other teammates who were also ahead of schedule.

Our collaborative effort paid off - we not only completed the project on time but also achieved a high grade of 72%, which we were all proud of. This experience taught me a lot about the importance of teamwork and adaptability when facing challenges.

Q

Your biggest failure in the last 5 years?

A

In my first year of university, I was part of a group tasked with creating a small Christmas product using the electronics skills we had learned during the term. We were randomly assigned into groups, and roles were distributed among us. The first decision we had to make was the selection of a project manager. I considered taking up the role, but when another team member volunteered, I stepped back.

As the project progressed, I saw early on that we were lagging behind schedule. Despite my concerns, I chose not to voice them as I wasn’t in the project manager role. This was a mistake, and due to my reticence, the team continued at the same pace. We ended up not only falling behind schedule but also delivering a poor-quality project.

This was a failure on my part, as I could have stepped up and shared my concerns, potentially shifting the course of our project. I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of communication and leadership, even when not in a designated leadership role. Since then, I have made it a point to voice my concerns and ideas proactively, regardless of my role in a team. This experience taught me that everyone has a responsibility to contribute to a project’s success.

Q

Greatest achievement in 5 years?

A

My proudest achievement in the last five years is becoming the first person in my family to earn a degree, specifically in a STEM field. This accomplishment wasn’t just personal, but a shared victory for my family and me. Despite financial hurdles and the lack of familial guidance in higher education, I persevered. University life taught me vital skills such as resilience, problem-solving, and time management, which extend beyond academics. Earning my STEM degree symbolizes my dedication, commitment to learning, and readiness to launch my career in data analytics.

A

I keep myself motivated by setting both short-term and long-term goals. I find that having clear objectives to strive towards helps to keep my focus sharp and my motivation high. I also make it a point to celebrate small victories along the way, which gives me a sense of accomplishment and propels me to move forward.

Moreover, I try to maintain a positive attitude and perspective. When faced with setbacks or challenging situations, I view them as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as obstacles.

Q

Why do you want to work in data analytics

A

I knew data analytics was the field i wanted to work in after completing a project at university that contained a lot of data analytics and science skills. The task was to gather EEG data from the brain, preprocess and filter the data and classify it using a machine learing algorithm called support vector machine to distinguish between left hand and right hand movement. I really enjoyed completing this project, significantly more than any other project i completed at university which made me look into jobs and what being a data analyst entails. To further my learning I completed the Google Data Analytics Course and from there I knew that this was the field that I wanted to work in.
