Difference between acute and chronic dermatitis
acute: pruritis, erythema, vesiculation
chronic: pruritis, xerosis, lichenificaiton
differentiate between acute and chronic contact dermatitis
Acute dermatitis often presents with edema and vesicle formation. Chronic dermatitis involves loss of elasticity of the skin including fissures in Lichenification and scaling
contact dermatitis
May be classified as acute or chronic as well as irritant or allergic. Involves an inflammatory reaction to something that contacts the skin.
Examples of contact dermatitis irritants
Harsh soaps, saliva, urine, bleach, acids, alkali, detergent, etc.
Examples of contact dermatitis allergens
Neomycin, local anesthetics, sulfonamides, rubber, nickel, cobalt sulfate, and plants
adverse effects of topical corticosteroids
Skin atrophy, telangectasia, striae

Fuor different varieties. Acute, subacute, chronic, relapsing.

diagnosis of atopic dermatitis
H&P
Could culture the crusts to screen for secondary infection.
Could do CBC with differential (eosinophilia)
Biopsy, KOH testing, mineral oil
