Ecosystem Flashcards
What is a producer
A living organism that makes food using light or chemical energy. (Some bacteria can use chemicals)
What is a consumer
A living organism gets its energy by consuming food
What is a herbivore
A living orgasm that feeds entirely on plants
What is a carnivore
A living organism that feeds entirely on animals
What is a decomposer
Bacteria and fungi that break down the dead bodies of plants and animals
What is the trophic level
A group of organisms that occupy the same position in a food chain
What is grass in a food chain
Producer
What is sheep in a food chain
Primary consumer (the herbivore)
What is the wolf In a Food chain
Second consumer (carnivore)
How is energy lost at each stage of the food chain?
Can be lost as heat during respiration
Lost in waste materials
Lost in movement
Lost through reproduction
How is energy used at each stage of the food chain
Used for respair of animal or pant cells
Used for growth
What is intensive farming
- intensive farming is an agricultural intensification system that aims to maximise yields (production) from available land
What are pesticides
The only toxic substances realised intentionally into our environment to kill living things
What are fertilisers
Fertilisers make crops grow faster and bigger so that crop yields are increased
What is the advantages of battery farming
Maximises yield (amount of useful product)
